Emre Göksan Pabuçcu: Another Contribution to the Growing Evidence on Endometriosis and Infertility!

Emre Göksan Pabuçcu, Professor at Ufuk üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Another contribution to the growing evidence on endometriosis and infertility.
I’m pleased to share the publication of our latest study in Reproductive Sciences:
‘Tubal Pathology on Hysterosalpingography in Women with Unoperated Endometriomas: A Comparative Analysis.’
In this matched comparative study, we evaluated 266 infertile women with unoperated ovarian endometriomas and 539 matched controls to investigate whether endometriomas are associated with tubal pathology detected by hysterosalpingography (HSG).
Key findings:

  • Women with unoperated endometriomas had a threefold higher prevalence of tubal pathology compared with controls (31.6% vs. 10.8%).
  • Age and the presence of an endometrioma were independent predictors of tubal abnormalities.
  • An endometrioma diameter of ≥4.5 cm was associated with a markedly increased risk of tubal pathology.
  • These findings suggest that earlier tubal assessment may improve individualized fertility counseling and treatment planning for women with endometriomas.

This study highlights that endometriomas may affect fertility not only through ovarian mechanisms but also by being associated with significant tubal disease.

Many thanks to all my co-authors and collaborators for their valuable contributions to this work.”
