“The most accurate ‘due date’ is often determined long before the baby starts to move.
A first-trimester ultrasound remains the most reliable method for establishing gestational age when menstrual dates are uncertain. Accurate pregnancy dating is more than a number—it influences prenatal screening, fetal growth assessment, the diagnosis of preterm or post-term pregnancy, and decisions about the timing of delivery.
As clinicians, every precise measurement contributes to better maternal and fetal outcomes.
Research continues to explore additional biometric parameters that may support gestational age estimation in selected clinical situations. Advancing our understanding of these tools can help improve obstetric care, especially when conventional dating methods are limited.
