“PhD Opportunity in DNA Repair, Fertility and Reproductive Aging
Autonomous University of Barcelona (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, UAB), Barcelona, Spain
How does the genome protect itself during the formation of eggs and sperm? And how do failures in these processes contribute to infertility and aging?
Our lab is seeking an outstanding, highly motivated predoctoral candidate to join the FERTAGE project, an exciting research program at the intersection of DNA repair, reproductive biology, genetics, and aging.
The PhD project will focus on TRIP13, a key regulator of meiotic DNA repair and chromosome dynamics. Recent findings from our group suggest that TRIP13 has previously unknown functions, opening a completely new avenue of research into how genome integrity is maintained during gamete formation.
What you’ll do
- Investigate fundamental mechanisms of DNA repair and meiosis
- Work with cutting-edge mouse genetics models
- Combine molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, cytology, microscopy, bioinformatics, and genome engineering approaches
- Contribute to research with implications for fertility, reproductive lifespan, and healthy aging
What we offer
- Young, international, and supportive research environment
- State-of-the-art facilities and technologies
- Strong international collaborations across Europe and the USA
- Opportunities for international research stays and conferences
- Training in a wide range of experimental and computational techniques
- Support for competitive PhD fellowship applications and career development
Who should apply?
- MSc and BSc in Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedicine, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, or related disciplines
- Excellent academic record (Bachelor + Master average grade preferably >8.5/10)
- Strong English communication skills
- Enthusiasm for biomedical research
- Knowledge of reproductive biology is a plus
Interested?
Please send:
- Motivation letter
- CV
- Academic transcripts (BSc and MSc)
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
We particularly encourage candidates interested in applying for competitive national and international PhD fellowships.”
