” ‘If you want children, it’s easier to have them if you do not smoke’, says the World Health Organization, citing new evidence of tobacco’s harmful impact on the reproductive health of both women and men.
Women who currently smoke tobacco have a 40% higher risk of infertility compared to those who do not smoke
Globally, one in six people of reproductive age will experience infertility at some point in their lifetime. Infertility is defined as the failure to achieve pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular unprotected sex.”
HRP Research shared this post, adding:
“The latest WHO Tobacco Knowledge Summary reviews evidence showing links between smoking and infertility in women, as well as adverse effects on semen, sperm and sexual function in men.
It also points to potential fertility risks associated with exposure to second-hand smoke.
HRP and WHO contributed to this synthesis of evidence, supporting healthcare providers and individuals with information that can be part of conversations about fertility, infertility and reproductive health.”
