Carla Wicks: Understanding Racial Differences in Endometriosis Care Pathways
Carla Wicks, Regional Medical Director at The Permanente Medical Group, shared Eve Zaritsky’s, MD at Kaiser Permanente Northern California, post LinkedIn about a paper published in Obstetrics and Gynecology:
“This week, I had a visit with a patient who had been struggling for years with endometriosis pain and infertility. Looking back on her journey, she shared that everything changed when she finally felt truly listened to and cared for – and she credited that shift to our team at The Permanente Medical Group, Inc. …and she is now pregnant for the first time ever!!!
She cried. I cried. All tears of joy.
Moments like this remind me why this work matters. Watching what we discovered through our research actually come to life in a patient’s story is something I will never take for granted.
Delivering equitable care is not a chore, and it’s not a passion project. It is simply the human approach to caring for our patients and communities – the way it should always be.”
Quoting Eve Zaritsky’s post:
“Our team is thrilled to announce the publication of our recent study on Endometriosis Care at Kaiser Permanente. The findings, now available at the link below, shed light on important aspects of care in this area:
- Black women received equitable endometriosis treatment compared with non-Black women.
- Non-White women had lower referral rates to pelvic pain specialists.
Read more about our research and the significance of these insights in the full publication.”
