Carrie Purcell: Addressing Pain Management in Women’s Health
Carrie Purcell, Research Fellow at The Open University, shared a post by Thomas Hanton, Research Fellow at RCOG, on LinkedIn:
“Really interesting to see that these new Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists | RCOG priorities published in The Lancet Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Women’s Health highlight the need to understand dissatisfaction with care. Our recent research higlights expectation setting and under-managed pain during procedures as a key issue for many in this context. We’ll be publishing findings from our recent qualitative survey soon. Meantime, analysis of focus groups we conducted on painful procedures is available here:
Quoting Thomas Hanton’s post:
“Today we published the results of the Women’s Health Research Priorities (WHRP) project led by Prof Asma Khalil on behalf of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists | RCOG in The Lancet Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Women’s Health.
The end product of this exercise was a list of 10 research questions which I have attached below. Interestingly participants elevated structural and societal themes as well as disease specific research priorities. We also report the top 24 research priorities in 12 themes spanning the female life-course.
Thank you to the over 2,000 participants who proposed questions and topics and voted on which questions and topics in should be prioritised in women’s health. And thank you to the project team, data analysis team, steering group, workshop participants and project partners for getting this project over the line.
More detailed report from the RCOG to follow.”
