  • The LH surge is the key event that triggers ovulation

LH surge causes final maturation of the egg

  • Granulosa cells begin luteinization (preparing for progesterone production)
  • Enzymes and prostaglandins weaken the follicular wall

A weak point (called the stigma) forms on the follicle surface

  • The follicle ruptures at this point
  • The egg (oocyte–cumulus complex) is released into the pelvis

This process happens naturally — known as an endogenous LH surge

  • In many letrozole cycles, ovulation occurs without any trigger injection

This supports a more physiological cycle
