Georges Raad: What Does Psychological Resilience Have to Do With a Blastocyst?
Georges Raad, Assistant Professor at the American University of Beirut, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper he co-authored with colleagues published in Reproduction and Fertility:
“What does psychological resilience have to do with a blastocyst?
We usually think of resilience in terms of how people adapt psychologically when facing adversity.
But in IVF, could psychological resilience also be associated with what happens in the laboratory?
In our prospective study of 126 couples undergoing ICSI, we assessed psychological resilience in both partners and examined its association with blastocyst quality.
What emerged was unexpected.
Our study, ‘Sex-specific associations between psychological resilience and blastocyst quality,’ is now published in Reproduction and Fertility.
These findings do not establish causality. Instead, they raise an intriguing possibility worth investigating further: psychological resilience and male reproductive biology may be more closely interconnected than we currently appreciate.
I am sincerely grateful to my co-authors, Youmna Mourad, Gaelle El Asmar, ZALIHE YARKINER, Fatima Ibrahim, Jad El Ahdab, Münevver Serdaroğulları, Ghina Ghazeeri, Anwar Nassar, and Dr. Chadi Fakih, for their collaboration and contribution to this work.
