Georges Raad։ Can Cumulus Cell DNA Fragmentation Tell Us Something About Subsequent Blastocyst Development?

Georges Raad, Assistant Professor at American University of Beirut, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper he co-authored with colleagues published in Reproduction and Fertility։

“Can cumulus cell DNA fragmentation tell us something about subsequent blastocyst development?

In our prospective study of 112 ICSI cycles, we examined cumulus cell DNA fragmentation in relation to several laboratory outcomes.

While higher fragmentation was associated with lower oocyte yield, we found no evidence of an independent association with the probability of obtaining at least one good-quality Day-5 blastocyst after adjustment.

Of course, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Our single-center study cannot exclude smaller effects, and these findings warrant further investigation.

For colleagues working in embryology and reproductive medicine: how do you see the potential role of cumulus-cell biomarkers in the IVF laboratory?”

Title: Cumulus cell DNA fragmentation in relation to oocyte yield and blastocyst quality.
