Ioakeim Sapantzoglou, Obstetrician- Subspecialty in Fetal Medicine at Alexandra Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Excited to share our latest publication in Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics:
‘The Incremental Yield of CMA over Karyotype in Fetal Ventriculomegaly: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis’
In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we analyzed data from 16 studies involving 2,137 fetuses with ventriculomegaly to evaluate the additional diagnostic value of chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) beyond conventional karyotyping.
Key findings:
- CMA provided an overall 7% incremental diagnostic yield over karyotyping in fetal ventriculomegaly.
- The yield was 4% in isolated ventriculomegaly and 10% in non-isolated cases.
- In mild isolated ventriculomegaly, the additional yield was lower, at 2%.
These findings contribute to the ongoing discussion regarding prenatal genetic evaluation and may help improve patient counseling, risk assessment, and individualized clinical decision-making when ventriculomegaly is detected prenatally.
I would like to sincerely thank all my co-authors and collaborators for their valuable contributions to this work.
Special thanks to the team of the 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Alexandra Hospital, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.”
