Julie Morgan: How Generative AI Is Reshaping Fertility Care?
Julie Morgan, Chair, Education Committee at The European Fertility Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Something is changing very quickly in fertility care.
During my almost 40 years working in IVF, there have been three moments when I felt fertility care fundamentally changed.
The first was ICSI.
The second was the internet.
The third is happening now – generative AI.
When ICSI arrived, it transformed what was clinically possible. When the internet arrived, it transformed how patients accessed information. Today, generative AI is transforming how patients understand, interpret and engage with fertility care.
Patients are arriving at consultations having already used ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and other AI tools to research treatment options, understand test results, prepare questions, seek reassurance and explore their options. Many have spent considerable time interacting with AI before they ever speak to a fertility professional.
Whether this ultimately proves beneficial, problematic or somewhere in between remains to be seen. What seems clear, however, is that patient behaviour, expectations and information-seeking are evolving rapidly. And, for me, this feels like one of those moments that we will look back on years from now and recognise as a significant turning point in the evolution of fertility care.
That is why Valerie Shaikly Kate Pleace and I, through the Education Programme of The European Fertility Society (EFS) have developed a short anonymous survey exploring how fertility professionals are experiencing the growing influence of generative AI within fertility care.
The survey takes just 2 minutes to complete, and we would be grateful if you could take part and share it with colleagues and professional networks.
Our aim is simple: to capture a snapshot in time while this transformation is happening, rather than trying to understand it retrospectively once the landscape has already changed.
