Konstantinos Stavridis: An Observational Study on Fetal Exposure to Paracetamol

Konstantinos Stavridis, Gynecology Resident at Spital Männedorf, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by Margit B Fischer et al. published in Human Reproduction Open:

“A very robust and carefully conducted study, published recently in one of the leading journals in our field.

However, it remains an observational study, so an association does not necessarily establish causation.

Ovarian volume, follicle number, AMH, and uterine volume in infancy are surrogate markers, and we still do not know whether these differences translate into reduced fertility or a shorter reproductive lifespan later in life.

Long-term follow-up will therefore be crucial.

For now, these findings deserve further investigation, but they should not create unnecessary anxiety or change current clinical recommendations regarding appropriate paracetamol use during pregnancy.”
