Mathew Leonardi: Advancements in Ultrasound and MRI for Endometriosis Diagnosis
Mathew Leonardi, Associate Professor at McMaster University, shared a post by FIGO on LinkedIn about a paper published in IJGO:
“Celebrating that I am a co-author with some amazing collaborators (and friends!) on a newly published study in the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics (IJGO), led by members of the FIGO Committee on Reproductive Medicine, Endocrinology and Infertility (REI).
Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 people, yet diagnosis is often delayed for years due to reliance on surgery, limited specialist training, and barriers to accessing care. Our study highlights a significant global shift towards using non-invasive imaging, particularly specialist ultrasound and MRI, as tools to diagnose endometriosis earlier and more effectively.
This research represents a major step forward in improving timely diagnoses and expanding access to patient-centred care for those living with endometriosis.”
Quoting FIGO’s (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) post:
“Endometriosis affects one in ten people, yet diagnosis is often delayed for many years due to reliance on surgery, limited specialist training and barriers to accessing appropriate care.
A new study led by members of the FIGO Committee on Reproductive Medicine, Endocrinology and Infertility (REI), now published in the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics (IJGO), shows a significant global move towards using non-invasive imaging, particularly specialist ultrasound and MRI to diagnose endometriosis.
