Alejandro González: A Historic Moment for the PCOS Community
Alejandro González, Gynecologist at INEBIR – Instituto para el Estudio de la Biología de la Reproducción Humana, shared a post by Terhi Piltonen, Professor at University of Oulu, on LinkedIn:
“Honestly, I’m really excited because tomorrow the new name for SOPQ will finally be announced, after the entire voting process in which I actively participated. I think it’s an important step – not just in terms of rebranding, but because it reflects the involvement and the voice of the whole professional community we’re part of. I truly believe that these kinds of initiatives, where everyone can contribute, are what really make a difference and strengthen our identity as a group. Tomorrow is going to be a special day, and I can’t wait to share it with all my colleagues. I’m sure the new name will be a great choice and will give us even more momentum!”
Quoting Terhi Piltonen’s post:
“The name of PCOS is changing
- The new name was decided after survey answers from 22 000 individuals including patients and their family members and health professionals
- 56 organizations (societies, patient organizations etc) were involved
- around 100 participants representing the 56 organizations voted for the new name
- aim:
- to capture better the true nature of the condition
- draw attention from fields/health care professionals who thought before this did not concern them
- improve care
- improve funding opportunities to improve care and science around the syndrome
- empower the women living with the syndrome
Stay alert 12.5.2026!!!!
The name will be revealed at the ECE 2026, Prague meeting!”
