KIR Polymorphisms May Influence Early Pregnancy Loss Mechanisms – RBMO

Reproductive BioMedicine Online (RBMO) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This study from a team at IVI RMA GLOBAL Research Alliance provides innovative insights into killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) polymorphisms and their potential roles in unexplained early pregnancy loss.

A balanced representation of KIR genotypes was obtained in women who underwent euploid embryo transfers, had no uterine abnormalities and tested negative for conditions that could explain their pregnancy loss, including both carriers and non-carriers of KIR2DS1 and KIR3DS1.

The study found that KIR polymorphisms influence endometrial gene expression, progesterone concentrations, cytokine secretion and oxidative stress in women with unexplained early miscarriage in the current cohort, highlighting FGF-4, TGF-β1 and follistatin as candidate mediators of early maternal–fetal cross-talk.
