Esther Eleboh: World Preeclampsia Day Is a Reminder of the Importance of Improving Awareness

Esther Eleboh, Head of Nursing Reproductive Department at Viva Fertility Clinic, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Today is World Preeclampsia Day – a reminder of the importance of improving awareness, prevention, and maternal outcomes in pregnancy.

Research has shown that pregnancies conceived through IVF may have a higher risk of pre-eclampsia compared to spontaneous conception. One important factor being discussed is the role of the corpus luteum, which produces hormones and substances such as relaxin that support healthy vascular adaptation during pregnancy.

This further highlights the importance of individualized fertility treatment approaches. In suitable patients, frozen embryo transfer (FET) in a natural cycle may offer advantages over hormone replacement therapy (HRT) cycles because the natural cycle preserves corpus luteum function.

We must also remember that conditions such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Endometriosis are additional risk factors associated with pre-eclampsia and adverse pregnancy outcomes.

As fertility specialists and healthcare professionals, our goal should not only be achieving pregnancy, but also supporting safer pregnancies and healthier maternal outcomes.

Early risk assessment, individualized protocols, and multidisciplinary care remain essential in reproductive medicine.

Please like, share and comment.”
