Maha Alasiri: A Case of Complete Uterine Perforation Caused by an IUD
Maha Alasiri, OB-GYN Ultrasound Specialist at Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Complete uterine perforation by an intrauterine device (IUD).
A patient presented with severe pelvic pain and vaginal bleeding. Transvaginal 2D and 3D ultrasound demonstrated complete uterine perforation by the IUD, clearly showing the device extending through the uterine wall.
This case highlights the importance of considering uterine perforation in patients presenting with pain, bleeding, or missing IUD strings. Ultrasound remains essential for accurate diagnosis and guiding timely management.”
