Hrishikesh Pai: Early Signs of Endometriosis – Recognizing the Symptoms Early Matters
Hrishikesh Pai, Founder and Managing Director at Bloom IVF India, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Early Signs of Endometriosis: Recognizing the Symptoms Early Matters
One of the greatest challenges with endometriosis is that it often goes undiagnosed for years.
Many women assume that severe menstrual pain is simply something they have to endure. It isn’t.
Endometriosis is a chronic condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, leading to inflammation, pain, and, in some cases, fertility challenges. Recognizing the early signs is the first step toward timely diagnosis and appropriate care.
Some symptoms that should not be overlooked include:
- Persistent or progressively worsening menstrual pain
- Chronic pelvic pain, even between menstrual cycles
- Pain during or after intercourse
- Heavy menstrual bleeding or irregular bleeding
- Pain during bowel movements or urination, particularly during menstruation
- Difficulty conceiving despite regular, unprotected intercourse
One important clinical observation is that the extent of symptoms does not necessarily indicate the severity of the disease. Some women with extensive endometriosis experience minimal discomfort, while others with milder disease may have significant pain.
As clinicians, our objective is not only to manage symptoms but also to preserve reproductive health and improve quality of life. This is why early evaluation is so important.
Persistent pelvic pain should never be considered ‘normal’. It deserves careful medical assessment, particularly when it begins to interfere with daily activities, professional commitments, or family planning.
With advances in diagnosis and treatment, endometriosis can often be managed effectively, helping many women relieve symptoms and, where required, optimize their fertility outcomes.
Awareness leads to earlier diagnosis. Earlier diagnosis leads to better treatment decisions.”
