Sergio Haimovich: Not Every Postpartum Intrauterine Finding is True RPOC!

Sergio Haimovich, Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa at the AAGL Board of Directors, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Not every postpartum intrauterine finding is true RPOC.
In the new Hystero360 podcast by Global Community of Hysteroscopy, we discuss Sonography-Assisted Management of Retained Products of Conception Post-Puerperium.

This study highlights a key clinical message: delaying transvaginal ultrasound until around 6 weeks postpartum may improve diagnostic accuracy by allowing normal postpartum debris to resolve spontaneously.
Using a three-tier ultrasound risk classification — low, moderate, and high probability — based on the presence of an intrauterine mass and vascular activity, clinicians can better identify which patients truly need intervention.
The most relevant impact is in the moderate-risk group, where timing and Doppler assessment may help avoid overtreatment.
For stable patients, this approach supports conservative management, reduces unnecessary surgical procedures, and helps reserve hysteroscopic treatment for confirmed cases.

Better imaging. Better timing. Safer reproductive outcomes.
