Mauro Cozzolino: Research Is the Engine of Progress Following ESHRE 2026 Best Oral Presentation Award

“Returning home from European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) ESHRE2026, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude, pride, and inspiration.
ESHRE conference is much more than a scientific congress—it’s a place where ideas meet, collaborations are born, and the future of reproductive medicine begins to take shape. This year in London was particularly special.
Our work, brilliantly presented by Dr. Beatrice Crestani, received the ESHRE Best Oral Presentation Award. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time an Italian researcher has received the most prestigious recognition from ESHRE during the conference, making this achievement even more meaningful for all of us. While receiving an award is incredibly rewarding, what truly matters is what it represents.
It is a reminder that research is the engine of progress. Every study starts with a clinical question, grows through curiosity, teamwork, critical thinking, and perseverance, and ultimately has one purpose: improving the care we provide to our patients.
One of the greatest privileges in my career has been having mentors who believed in me before I fully believed in myself. They challenged me, trusted me, and gave me opportunities that shaped my professional journey. Today, seeing younger colleagues like Beatrice achieve such extraordinary milestones is perhaps the most rewarding part of my job. Because this is what research should do: not only generate knowledge, but also inspire people.
Scientific achievements are never the result of a single individual. They are built on mentorship, collaboration, shared ambition, and an environment where young researchers are encouraged to ask questions, think differently, and pursue excellence. If this award inspires even one young clinician or scientist to believe that their ideas can make a difference, then its impact will extend far beyond the conference itself.
Congratulations to Beatrice and to everyone who contributed to this project. Thank you to all the colleagues who continue to believe that science is our greatest investment—not only for the future of reproductive medicine, but for the future of the people we care for every day.
