Felipe Vilella Mitjana: A Microfluidic Platform for Studying Human Embryo Adhesion

Felipe Vilella Mitjana, Vice President for Research and Senior Principal Investigator at Carlos Simon Foundation for Research in Women’s Health, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper published in Science Advances:

“I’m very pleased to share our latest work, now published in Science Advances.

In this study, we introduce ADOC (Adhesion Dynamics-On-A-Chip), a microfluidic model of the human endometrium that allows us to observe the earliest stages of embryo adhesion in a controlled human system.

The platform reproduces key features of a receptive endometrium and captures how human blastocysts establish their first stable interactions with the endometrial epithelium. We also show that this process depends on proper hormonal preparation of the tissue.

Beyond the biological findings, ADOC provides a new experimental platform for studying embryo implantation and exploring the mechanisms that underlie endometrial receptivity and implantation failure.

My congratulations to every member of the team and our collaborators for making this work possible.

Read the paper.”
