Abisola Malumi: The Part No One Really Talks About in the Fertility Journey
Abisola Malumi, Clinic Manager at Fertigold Fertility Clinic, shared on LinkedIn:
“Everyone talks about treatments and procedures.
But no one really talks about the waiting in between…
I wrote about that part of the journey in this week’s Fertility Conversations with Abisola.
It’s quiet, but it’s heavy and it deserves more attention.
The Part No One Really Talks About in the Fertility Journey
When people think about fertility care, the focus is usually on the obvious parts – the treatments, the procedures, the appointments, and all the medical steps involved. It’s what gets discussed the most, and understandably so.
But there’s a quieter part of the journey that doesn’t get talked about enough.
The waiting.
Not just the physical waiting, but the emotional space it creates. The waiting after a consultation, where you find yourself replaying every word the doctor said. The waiting for test results, where your mind swings between hope and fear in the same breath. The waiting between cycles, where you try to gather strength again, even when you’re not sure how you feel.
It’s a kind of waiting that isn’t always visible to others, but it carries weight.
What makes it even more difficult is that life doesn’t slow down to match that pace. Work continues. Conversations happen. Social media moves. Announcements are made. And somehow, you are expected to stay present in all of it while quietly navigating something deeply personal.
From the outside, it may seem like nothing is happening. But internally, a lot is unfolding – emotionally, mentally, even physically. There is hope, there is uncertainty, there are questions that don’t always have immediate answers.
Working closely within fertility care has shown me that beyond the clinical process, there is a human experience that deserves just as much attention. Because while treatment plans are important, so is the environment in which those plans are carried out.
People don’t just need procedures; they need clarity. They need to feel heard when they speak. They need to understand what is happening, and just as importantly, what to expect next. And sometimes, they simply need reassurance that what they’re feeling is valid.
This is where care becomes more than medical.
It becomes emotional support. It becomes communication. It becomes presence.
Because the truth is, some of the heaviest moments in the fertility journey are not the loud ones, they are the quiet, in-between spaces where people are simply trying to hold on.
And in those moments, knowing you are not alone can make all the difference.
What do you think people underestimate most about the fertility journey?”
