Egg freezing has transformed the conversation around fertility planning – but one important question is often missed:
Does freezing your eggs preserve fertility – or simply preserve eggs?

What Does Egg Freezing Preserve?

Your eggs at the age they are frozen.
Egg freezing preserves mature oocytes for potential future use.

Reproductive options for the future.
For some women, it can provide an additional option when pregnancy is being considered later.

An option before certain medical treatments.
Fertility preservation may be considered before treatments that could affect ovarian function, depending on the clinical situation.

What Doesn’t Egg Freezing Preserve?

  • It does not stop reproductive aging.
  • It does not guarantee a future pregnancy or live birth.
  • It does not preserve ovarian function or prevent menopause.
  • It cannot eliminate all age-related pregnancy risks.
  • It does not guarantee that every frozen egg will survive thawing, fertilize, develop into an embryo, or result in a healthy birth.
