Ishika Kaushik: The Future of IVF – When AI Meets Reproductive Medicine
Ishika Kaushik, MBBS Doctor, shared on LinkedIn:
“The Future of IVF: When Artificial Intelligence Meets Reproductive Medicine
IVF is entering a fascinating new era where AI, computer vision, automation, and advanced laboratory technologies are being explored to support embryologists and improve the precision of assisted reproduction.
Some of the most exciting developments include:
- AI-assisted embryo selection – analysing embryo development and imaging patterns to support embryologists in assessing developmental potential.
- AI-based sperm selection – using computer vision to identify and assess sperm characteristics with greater consistency.
- Automated ICSI – robotic systems are being developed to assist with the highly precise process of injecting a sperm into an oocyte.
- Microfluidic ‘lab-on-a-chip’ technology – creating new ways to process and select sperm while reducing manual laboratory steps.
- Mitochondrial donation – an important reproductive technology that can help families affected by certain inherited mitochondrial disorders.
The goal isn’t to replace embryologists with machines.
The real opportunity is to combine human clinical expertise with data-driven technology to make IVF more precise, reproducible and personalised.
But innovation must move hand-in-hand with clinical validation, patient safety, ethics and responsible use of AI.
The question isn’t whether technology will change IVF-it already is. The question is how responsibly we use it to improve reproductive care.”
