Dairo David: The Embryo Is Important, but What About the Endometrium?
Dairo David, Trainee Embryologist at God’s Knot Fertility Centre, shared on LinkedIn:
“The Embryo Is Important. But What About the Endometrium?
When we talk about IVF, much of the attention goes to the embryo – its quality, developmental stage, and genetic status.
But there is another important player that deserves attention: the endometrium.
The endometrium is the inner lining of the uterus, and it plays a crucial role in embryo implantation.
Think of it this way:
- The embryo is the seed.
- The endometrium is the soil.
A good-quality embryo still needs a receptive uterine environment to implant successfully.
But here’s something important:
A thicker endometrium does not automatically mean a higher chance of pregnancy.
Endometrial receptivity involves much more than thickness. Hormonal synchronization, blood supply, uterine anatomy, inflammatory and immune factors, and the timing between embryo development and endometrial maturation can all contribute to successful implantation.
As someone developing in the field of clinical embryology, I find this fascinating because it reminds us that assisted reproduction is truly a collaboration between embryology, reproductive medicine, and the biology of implantation.
What other factors do you think are important for successful embryo implantation?”
