Silvia Alvarez: Do Endometriosis or Adenomyosis Affect Oocyte Quality and Pregnancy Rates?
Silvia Alvarez, President of Sampil Association, shared a post by Reproductive BioMedicine Online on LinkedIn about a paper by Semra Kahraman et al. published in RBMO:
“Endometriosis/adenomyosis
Is there an impact on oocytes and pregnancy rates?
A large study, admittedly retrospective, highlights that it is adenomyosis that compromises the evolution of pregnancy by an increase in the rate of pregnancies stopped and a decrease in implantation during ART.”
Quoting Reproductive BioMedicine Online post:
“There has been much debate whether there is any correlation between endometriosis and oocyte morphology and quality. Some studies in the literature conclude that oocyte quality is adversely impacted by endometriosis, others that there is no such effect.
This new study by Semra Kahraman, Ipek Duzguner, and Yucel Sahin analyses data from a very large number of endometriosis and non-endometriosis cases, evaluating a total of 205,978 oocytes morphologically to show that endometriosis and adenomyosis do not affect the oocyte morphology and oocyte quality. Their results show that live birth rates appear unaffected in endometriosis cases. However, the presence of adenomyosis increases the risk of miscarriages and decreases live birth rate.
The full paper is available now as a pre-proof to RBMO subscribers from our in-press articles section now.”
