What We Can Do to Better Raise Awareness of Gynaecological Cancers – RCOG

Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) shared on LinkedIn:

“It’s Gynae Cancer Awareness Month.

We asked Dr. Amy Keightley (Consultant Gynaecologist and Gynae Oncology Lead) what we can do to better raise awareness of gynae cancers.

She shared something striking: lots of people would struggle to even label a vulva accurately, as we don’t talk about female anatomy enough.

If patients don’t have the words to describe a symptom, they’re less likely to go to their GP – and earlier presentation saves lives.

She said,

‘If we could normalise and promote general discussion of gynaecological health with less stigma and shame, that in turn would allow people to feel more confident in knowing what is abnormal and giving them words to go to the GP with a problem.’

The Eve Appeal has some great resources to help women know what symptoms to look for.”
