Natalie Crawford: What’s the Difference Between IUI and IVF?

Natalie Crawford, Co-Founder at Fora Fertility, shared on LinkedIn:

“IUI vs IVF – What’s the difference?

IUI (intrauterine insemination) is a simpler procedure where prepared sperm is placed directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation.

It works with the body’s natural cycle and is often used for mild male factor, unexplained infertility, or ovulation timing challenges.

IVF (in vitro fertilization) is a more advanced treatment where eggs are retrieved from the ovaries, fertilized in a lab, and an embryo is transferred back into the uterus.

It allows for more control, embryo testing, and is often used for more complex fertility diagnoses or when other treatments haven’t worked.

IUI is typically less invasive and more affordable per cycle, while IVF is more intensive but offers higher success rates per attempt.

The right option depends on your diagnosis, history, and goals-and often, treatment plans are individualized and stepwise.”
