Robert Borowczyk: An International IVF Inquiry Should Never Arrive as Just “IVF”

“An international IVF inquiry should never arrive as just ‘IVF’.

A person in another country can read about donor treatment, prices, and travel, then decide to contact the clinic.

They send the form.

The team may receive a name, an email address, and one word: ‘IVF’.

Now the first reply has to start by asking the basics.

  • Where are you based?
  • Which language do you prefer?
  • When is a good time to call?
  • Which treatment are you asking about?

The person has already spent time trying to understand the clinic.

But the person replying may know almost nothing about what brought them there.

For an international patient, that can make the first conversation harder than it needs to be.

And none of these details require medical data.

As an engineer,

I would test this with one made-up inquiry, i.e.:

  • use fake details
  • send the real form
  • then look at exactly WHAT the clinic team receives.

If the answer is still ‘name + email + IVF’, useful information is disappearing before the first human reply.

For UK patients considering fertility treatment abroad, the HFEA tells them to check things such as local rules, total cost, how records are kept and how complaints work.

So someone may already have several practical questions before they ever contact a clinic.

If the first reply starts from zero, some of that useful information may have been lost between the website and the clinic team.

A public website review can show where that may happen. It cannot prove that a real consultation or revenue was lost. That needs clinic data.
