Kristen Williams: The Hills I Will Die on as a Women’s Healthcare Founder

“The hills I will die on as a women’s healthcare founder:

Women’s health is not a niche market. It has been mismeasured, underfunded and misunderstood.
Awareness is not investment. We have spent years talking about the trillion-dollar opportunity in women’s health, yet companies focused exclusively on women still receive less than 1% of private healthcare investment.
Technology alone will not close the women’s health gap. We also need to invest in the clinicians, specialty centers and care-delivery models that women rely on when they are actually sick.
Basic care is innovation. A woman should not need a breakthrough device or a new app nearly as much as she needs timely access to an ultrasound, IV hydration, medication, bloodwork and a clinician who believes her.
Early pregnancy is healthcare. Women should not be left without meaningful support between graduating from fertility care and seeing their OB often weeks later.
The emergency room should not be the default care model for hyperemesis gravidarum. Dedicated outpatient treatment can intervene earlier, improve outcomes and prevent many avoidable ER visits.
Capital should follow unmet need not only what is easiest to scale or most fashionable to fund.
