“IVF and Breast Cancer Risk: The Definitive Meta-Analysis
I am pleased to share this latest systematic review and meta-analysis published in Cureus, led by Elias Tsakos and Bimpa-Tsakou Kanelina and co-authored alongside Dimitrios N. Koronarchis and Emmanouil M. Xydias.
Evaluating a total cohort of 617,479 patients, our study provides crucial clarity on a major clinical question, reassuring both clinicians and patients worldwide.
Key Findings:
- No statistically significant risk: Ovarian stimulation protocols for IVF do not increase the incidence of breast cancer compared to the general population;
- Long-term safety: Epidemiological data remain reassuring even for patients undergoing repeated therapeutic cycles (more than 6).
These findings provide the medical community with robust, evidence-based data to improve clinical counseling and ensure patient safety throughout fertility treatments.
