RCOG Welcomes £254 Million Global Health Investment
Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) shared on LinkedIn:
“The RCOG welcomes the Government’s announcement last week of renewed investment through the CHOICES programme in global sexual and reproductive health and rights, which has the potential to transform the lives of millions of women and girls around the world.
This £254 million investment could prevent more than 35,000 maternal deaths and avert 14 million unintended pregnancies by 2028.
It will expand access to high-quality contraception and safe abortion care across 54 countries and fund innovative, life-saving medicines for mothers and newborn babies.
As a global College, we will continue to make the evidence-based case for UK leadership in global sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
Our 2023 report, Getting back on track: The case for reinvestment in global sexual and reproductive health and rights highlighted the value of investment in SRHR and the importance of dedicated and sufficient long-term funding.
This announcement is a significant step towards improving access to essential services for millions of women and girls, preventing unintended pregnancies and reducing maternal deaths.
Read the RCOG’s Getting back on track report.”
