Rakhi Rai: Can Poor Sperm Health Reduce the Chances of Pregnancy?
Rakhi Rai, Director of Fertility and IVF at Cloudnine Group of Hospitals, shared on LinkedIn:
“Male fertility is an important part of the conception journey.
Difficulty conceiving isn’t always related to female fertility.
In men, factors such as low sperm count, poor sperm motility, or abnormal sperm morphology can affect the chances of natural conception.
A semen analysis is one of the first and most important investigations for evaluating male fertility.
It assesses parameters such as:
- Sperm concentration: how many sperm are present
- Motility: how effectively sperm move
- Morphology: the shape and structure of sperm
- Semen volume and other characteristics that can provide additional information
Abnormal results do not necessarily mean that natural conception or parenthood is impossible.
Results need to be interpreted in the context of the couple’s overall fertility history, and sometimes a repeat semen analysis or additional evaluation may be recommended.
With the guidance of Dr. Rakhi, a detailed assessment helps identify potential contributing factors and determine whether lifestyle changes, medical treatment, IUI, IVF or other fertility options may be appropriate.
Don’t ignore male fertility.
Understanding the cause is the first step toward the right treatment.”
