Marking 1 Year Since the Inaugural World PPH Day Was Launched – RCOG
Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) shared on LinkedIn։
“Today is World Postpartum Haemorrhage (PPH) Day, marking one year since the inaugural World PPH Day was launched.
PPH remains one of the leading causes of maternal mortality worldwide, with nearly 45,000 maternal deaths attributed to PPH in 2023. In England, it affects more than 16,000 births each year, with a profound physical and emotional impact on women and families.
To mark the day, RCOG hosted an event in London organised by the University of Liverpool. It brought together PPH leads from trusts across England, with colleagues from the wider global maternity community also taking part. The event provided an opportunity to share learning and strengthen collaboration on preventing and managing PPH.
The event also incorporated a FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) webinar, delivered in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM). The webinar focused on sharing lessons from one year of implementing the postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) guidelines, including what has been learned from their implementation in practice.
This year’s theme, Making It Happen – From Roadmap to Results, reflects a simple challenge: we know what works, now we must make it happen. World PPH Day is a reminder of the progress already made and the need to turn evidence into action so every woman and family receives safe, compassionate maternity care.”
