Andreu Vives Perelló: Evaluating the Implementation of Kitazato’s UFW Protocol Across the Care Fertility Network
Andreu Vives Perelló, Medical Science Liaison (MSL) and Scientific Coordinator and Senior Clinical Embryologist at Kitazato, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper he co-authored with colleagues published in the RBMO:
“I’m pleased to share our latest multicentre study published in Reproductive BioMedicine Online, evaluating the implementation of Kitazato’s UltraFastWarming (UFW) protocol across the Care Fertility network.
As joint first author alongside George Woodhead, I had the opportunity to contribute to the analysis of 3,887 blastocysts across 15 clinics, assessing the clinical impact of introducing this simplified warming protocol at scale.
Key findings:
- Survival Rates: 97.7% with UFW vs. 95.9% with standard warming (p=0.013)
- Clinical Pregnancy Rates: 44.7% vs. 41.2% (p=0.088)
- Live Birth Rates: 35.8% vs. 36.1% (p=0.946)
- Approximately 10-fold reduction in warming time with UFW
One of the most interesting findings was that the simplified warming protocol had the greatest impact in centres with lower baseline survival rates, leading to a significant improvement in overall blastocyst survival across the Care Fertility group.
Summary: higher survival rates, comparable clinical outcomes, and a substantially faster workflow.
A huge thank you to Alison Campbell and George Woodhead for their trust and for the opportunity to contribute to this project. I’m also very grateful to all my colleagues across Care Fertility and Reach Fertility (Ruth Arnesen, Rachel Smith, Laina Davies, Rebecca Fabian, Marnie Cope, Sharon Corcoran, Bayan Houary, Gemma Page-Dove, Susan Barlow, Jennifer Patrick, and everyone involved) for their collaboration, expertise, and dedication throughout this work.”
