Dawn Chan։ Hong Kong’s Cash Bonuses and IVF Expansion to Boost Births
Dawn Chan, Founder and CEO of Sow Fertility, shared on LinkedIn:
“Supporting people to become parents takes more than a cash bonus. It takes time, too.
I recently spoke with Laura Westbrook for TRT World about Hong Kong’s cash bonuses and IVF expansion to boost births.
Financial support and access to fertility treatment are important. But when people consider becoming parents, they’re not only asking, ‘Can I afford to have a child?’
They’re also asking:
- Will I have time to be present for my family?
- Can I attend fertility appointments without worrying about how it will affect my career?
- Will my workplace support me through treatment, parenthood and caregiving?
Being able to spend time with family is just as important as being able to provide for one.
This is why the responsibility cannot sit with government alone. Employers have a meaningful role to play in creating fertility-friendly and baby-friendly workplaces – with flexibility for treatment, parental leave, support for returning to work, and a culture where using these policies doesn’t signal a lack of commitment.
At Sow Fertility, we believe family-building belongs in the workplace conversation – not just as a benefit, but as part of how we support people throughout their lives.
If we want people to feel supported in becoming parents, we need to make room for parenting, too.
What would meaningful support for family-building look like in your workplace?”
