Arsiak Vartenian: My Daughter Was Born Through Surrogacy, and That Is a Story Worth Telling
Arsiak Vartenian, Founder and Host of Smart Is The New Sexy, shared on LinkedIn:
“My daughter was born through surrogacy.
And I never want her to feel ashamed of her story.
I never want her to feel there’s something wrong with how she was born or that her story needs to be hidden.
Because it’s not.
I went through 6 miscarriages. 6 rounds of IVF and 2 surrogacy journeys.
All before I finally held my daughter in my arms.
For years, I wondered if I would ever become a mother.
And today, I think about it a lot.
- I want her to know families are made in many ways.
- That some babies grow in their mother’s belly.
- And some grow in the belly of a woman helping a family.
That neither story is less beautiful. And neither child is less loved.
- I want her to feel free to ask questions.
- To be curious.
- To understand where she came from.
Because one day, someone might ask her why her mom didn’t carry her.
And I don’t want her to feel awkward or embarrassed.
I want her to know that her story is hers. And that she has every right to be proud of it.
I can’t protect her from every question the world may ask.
But I can make sure she grows up knowing one thing: There is nothing about her that needs to be hidden.
Surrogacy isn’t something I want to whisper about.
It’s part of how my family came to be.
And I will always be grateful for it.
Because my daughter wasn’t born the way I once imagined, but she was wanted, loved, and hoped for long before she arrived.
And that is a story worth telling.
P.S. Do you think children should grow up knowing their full birth story?”
