Kenji Ezoe: Can Prolactin Improve Embyo Transfer Outcomes?

Can prolactin improve embryo transfer outcomes?
Our randomized controlled trial, recently published in Reproductive BioMedicine Online, explored the effect of combining prolactin (PRL) with a hyaluronic-acid–enriched transfer medium (EmbryoGlue) for single vitrified-warmed blastocyst transfer (SVBT).
In a double-blind RCT of 1,236 couples, the EGP group (EmbryoGlue + PRL) showed:
- Higher live birth rate
- Higher ongoing pregnancy rate
- Lower early pregnancy loss
compared with both the control and EmbryoGlue groups, with no increase in adverse outcomes.
These findings suggest that PRL supplementation during embryo transfer may help improve live birth outcomes by reducing early pregnancy loss.
