Asma Khalil: Pregnancy Over 40 Brings Real Risks, But Many Women Have Excellent Outcomes

Asma Khalil, Professor of Maternal Fetal Medicine at St. George’s Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“More women are choosing to start or grow their families in their 40s — and while advancing maternal age does bring genuine clinical considerations, it is far from a reason to lose hope.

The risks are real and worth discussing openly: increased rates of chromosomal abnormalities, gestational diabetes, hypertensive disorders, and caesarean delivery. But with the right care, counselling, and monitoring, many women over 40 go on to have excellent pregnancy outcomes.

In this clip, I share the honest, evidence-based conversation I have with patients in this age group.”
