Aumatma Simmons: Secondary Infertility Deserves a Fresh Evaluation
Aumatma Simmons, Co-Founder and Chief Fertility Officer at Madre Fertility, shared on LinkedIn:
“Secondary Infertility Deserves a Fresh Evaluation.
Having conceived before does not guarantee that conception will be just as straightforward the next time.
Secondary infertility can involve new factors that develop after a previous pregnancy, including:
- Changes in sperm health
- Ovulation or hormonal dysfunction
- Endometriosis or tubal factors
- Scarring or complications from prior pregnancies or procedures
- Age, metabolic health, and lifestyle changes in either partner
In some cases, no clear cause is identified despite a thorough evaluation.
Key Insight:
Secondary infertility should be approached with the same comprehensive assessment as primary infertility, without assuming that previous fertility reflects current reproductive health.
How do you approach the evaluation of secondary infertility differently from primary infertility?”
