Dana Culp: You’re Waiting for Hot Flashes – That’s Not What Most Women in Perimenopause Report First
Dana Culp, Nurse Practitioner, Founder and CEO, and Menopause Specialist at Thrive Midlife Medicine, shared on LinkedIn:
“Most women are told to watch for hot flashes. Then they spend two years exhausted, anxious, and snapping at people they love, wondering what is wrong with them.
A study published this July surveyed 17,494 women in 158 countries. The symptoms women recognized as perimenopause and the symptoms they actually reported were not the same list.
Fatigue. Exhaustion. Irritability. Low mood. Anxiety. Digestive changes.
These were reported far more often than the symptom everyone is told to look for.
I see this every week. Women who have been to four providers and come away with four separate prescriptions and no explanation. The pattern was there the whole time.
You do not need a hot flash to qualify for care.
I see patients through telehealth in California and Nevada, and I accept insurance.
