”Can a Woman Have Endometriosis Without Severe Pain?
Yes. And this is one reason endometriosis can remain undiagnosed for years.
Severe pelvic pain is commonly associated with endometriosis – but pain intensity does not always reflect the extent or presence of disease.
What Else Can Be a Sign?
- Heavy or irregular menstrual bleeding
- Difficulty conceiving or infertility
- Bowel or bladder symptoms, particularly around menstruation
- Pain during intercourse
- Persistent fatigue or reduced quality of life
- Sometimes, few or no obvious symptoms at all
Some women may discover endometriosis during an evaluation for infertility or another gynecological concern.
Why Early Recognition Matters
Endometriosis is a complex, chronic condition involving tissue similar to the uterine lining growing outside the uterus. Its presentation can vary significantly from one woman to another.
That means ‘no severe pain’ should not automatically mean ‘no endometriosis.’
Advances in imaging, biomarkers, minimally invasive surgery, AI-assisted diagnostics, and personalized treatment are helping researchers and clinicians explore better ways to identify and manage the condition.
The key message: Listen to the whole clinical picture – not just the pain score.
These developments in endometriosis, fertility, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, and precision women’s healthcare will be part of the scientific conversations at the 12th Global Summit on Gynecology, Fertility and Women’s Health (GFWH 2026).
