Devyanshi Dixit։ Is “Normal Period Pain” Actually Normal?

Devyanshi Dixit, Program Manager at CLS Event and Publication and Conference Manager at the 12th Global Summit on Gynecology, Fertility and Women’s Health, shared on LinkedIn:

“Is ՛Normal Period Pain՛ Actually Normal?

We’ve heard it so often:

՛Period pain is normal. Everyone gets it.՛

But there’s an important distinction between common and normal.

Mild cramping around menstruation can be common. But pain that is severe, worsening, persistent, or disruptive to everyday life deserves attention-not dismissal.

It may sometimes be associated with conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, or other gynecological conditions.

The bigger question is:

How do we distinguish expected menstrual discomfort from pain that warrants further evaluation?

And perhaps more importantly:

How many women have learned to live with pain simply because they were told it was ՛normal՛?

The future of gynecology isn’t only about developing better treatments.

It is also about recognizing symptoms earlier, listening more carefully, and making accurate diagnosis more accessible.

For healthcare professionals:

What do you think is the biggest barrier to earlier recognition of significant menstrual pain-patient awareness, delayed consultation, diagnostic challenges, or something else?

We’ll be exploring the evolving landscape of women’s health, precision gynecology, and next-generation care at the 12th Global Summit on Gynecology, Fertility and Women’s Health.
