Evelyn Ndinda։ A Few Reasons Why Skin-to-Skin Contact Matters
Evelyn Ndinda, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist at the Mpshah Hospital, shared on LinkedIn:
“Did you know that starting skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth can set the stage for a much smoother postpartum experience?
Here are a few reasons why early bonding and initiation matter:
- Calmer Babies: Research shows that newborns who experience immediate skin-to-skin contact are calmer and cry less.
- Postpartum Mental Health: A calm baby can significantly reduce stress for new parents during a critical transition period.
- Breastfeeding Success: Initiating breastfeeding as early as possible dramatically improves the likelihood of a successful breastfeeding journey.
- Proper Latching: Early guidance helps ensure the baby attaches correctly, giving parents confidence right from the start.
Providing support from the very first moments of life makes a lasting difference for both parents and newborns.”
