Jamie Church: There’s a Side of Surrogacy That Doesn’t Get Talked about Enough…

”There’s a side of surrogacy that doesn’t get talked about enough.

It’s not just the medical appointments, medications, paperwork, or the moment you finally get to meet the baby.
It’s the relationships.
It’s learning how to communicate with people who may be experiencing an incredibly emotional journey from a completely different perspective than your own.
It’s knowing when someone needs information, when they need reassurance, when they need space, and when they simply need someone to listen.

Having been a gestational surrogate twice – I’ve learned that advocacy isn’t about having all the answers.

It’s about helping someone feel informed, respected, heard, and supported while they navigate something that can change their life.

That lesson has shaped far more than my experience with surrogacy. It has shaped the way I approach healthcare, patient relationships, communication, and leadership.

Sometimes the most valuable expertise we bring to our work isn’t something we learned in a classroom.

Sometimes it’s something we lived.

And I’m grateful that surrogacy has taught me so much about both.”
