Justin Houman: 5 Things I Never Let My Patients Do

Justin Houman, Men’s Health Urologist at Tower Urology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, shared on LinkedIn:

“Five things I don’t let my patients do, for colleagues who often see these men first.

  1. Kegels for pelvic floor pain. The pain is a muscle spasm or tightness in the pelvic floor, and Kegel exercises can only make it worse.
  2. Shockwave for ED from a radial device. Many devices on the market deliver a radial wave; the focused wave is the one to use.
  3. Letting ED in a man’s 30s or 40s go unexamined. ED is a check engine light at any age, and these men should be evaluated for heart disease, elevated cholesterol, diabetes and blood pressure problems.
  4. Ruling out a vasectomy reversal at 10 years. Success is highest within 7 to 10 years of the vasectomy and declines after that, but not for every patient.
  5. Skipping the post-vasectomy semen analysis. Every man needs one to confirm there is no sperm in the ejaculate.

Happy to see these patients in Los Angeles and across the US.”
