Katie Rollings: You Never Know the Story Behind Someone’s Reaction to a Baby on Board Badge
Katie Rollings, Founder and CEO of Fertility Action, shared on LinkedIn։
“I remember staring at one of these badges on the Tube, just days after a devastating scan, years into fertility treatment.
Even looking at it felt like being punched in the stomach.
Last week, I saw one again. My heart flinched – one of those painful flicks that makes your arms and fingertips go suddenly cold. It remembered. But this time, the feeling that followed was entirely different.
Joy. Absolute joy.
A couple I’ve known from the support community for a while, who had waited so long, were finally wearing their Baby on Board badges, and the happiness on their faces made my heart burst.
As Baby Loss Awareness Week comes to a close, it felt worth sharing this reminder.
The next time you see someone looking sad as they glance at one of these badges, remember that you don’t know their story.
Perhaps they’re remembering a baby they’ve lost; maybe they’re still hoping for their own; it could be that their baby on board took a very long, difficult road to get there.
You never know what someone has been through to get to where they are.
And if you’re someone who is also feeling that flinch when you see these badges, Fertility Action charity is always here for you.”
