Katy Encalade: Talking about Surrogacy with Dorette Noorhasan at the Modern Parenthood Podcast
Katy Encalade, President and CEO at Egg Donor and Surrogate Solutions, shared on LinkedIn:
“My professional philosophy around egg donation and surrogacy wasn’t formed only through leading an agency. It was formed through living this work first.
I was an egg donor more than 20 years ago. Later, I became a gestational surrogate. Our family also fostered. Today, I have the privilege of leading Egg Donor and Surrogate Solutions.
I recently joined the Modern Parenthood Podcast to talk about how those experiences have shaped the way I think about this work today.
One theme kept coming back to me throughout our conversation: relationships matter.
In surrogacy especially, we can have contracts, medical protocols, and clearly defined roles, but trust still has to be intentionally built. That starts long before an embryo transfer.
It starts during matching, when people are willing to talk honestly about communication, expectations, medical decisions, pregnancy preferences, and the difficult situations we hope never happen.
Because surrogacy may have a defined endpoint, but it is not simply a transaction.
It is deeply relational.
For almost 20 years in this field, I continue to believe our responsibility is not simply to help people move through a process.
It is to create the education, conversations, and structure that allow everyone involved to move through it with clarity, respect, and care.
Grateful to Dorette Noorhasan and Modern Parenthood Podcast for giving me the space to share both the professional perspective and the personal experiences behind why I care so deeply about doing this work well.”
Egg Donor and Surrogate Solutions shared this post, adding:
“The work we do at ED and SS is deeply personal, and for our President and CEO, Katy Encalade, that’s especially true.
From egg donor to surrogate to leading ED and SS today, her experiences continue to shape how we approach this work with education, trust and care.
We’re proud to share her conversation on the Modern Parenthood Podcast.”
