“Reproductive ageing is not just about chromosomes.
As maternal age increases, biological changes can extend from oocyte meiotic integrity and cytoplasmic competence to embryo metabolism, developmental kinetics and blastocyst formation.
Aneuploidy is an important part of reproductive ageing, but embryo developmental competence involves more than chromosome number alone.
This infographic explores the biology of later childbearing and the multiple pathways that shape the developmental journey from oocyte to embryo to live birth.
Understanding reproductive ageing means looking beyond a single genetic checkpoint and appreciating the biology of the whole developmental continuum.”
