“AI in IVF: From an add-on technology to a core clinical capability?
The conversation around Artificial Intelligence in reproductive medicine is changing rapidly.
AI is no longer simply about analysing embryo images or providing another score to embryologists. We are moving toward a much broader question:
Can AI become an integral part of the entire IVF ecosystem?
From patient stratification and ovarian response prediction to embryo assessment, sperm selection, laboratory quality control and personalised treatment planning, AI has the potential to transform multiple steps of the reproductive journey.
This is particularly relevant in Abu Dhabi, where the newly launched Programme for the Future of Reproductive Health places AI, genomics, precision medicine, health-data analytics and research at the centre of its roadmap toward 2030. (Abu Dhabi Media Office)
But technology alone will not transform IVF.
The real challenge will be validation, clinical integration, data quality, governance, patient trust and demonstrating meaningful improvement in outcomes.
The future may not be about ‘AI replacing embryologists.’
It may be about embryologists and clinicians becoming AI-enabled decision-makers.
The next generation of IVF laboratories could ultimately become increasingly automated, data-driven and adaptive – while keeping clinical judgement and patient-centred care at the heart of the process.
The question is no longer whether AI will enter IVF.
The question is how responsibly and effectively we integrate it.”
